Went to Walmart today

I had a 10 dollar voucher that I had gotten from Mattel that was due to expire at the end of the month. I hate using them at Walmart since for some reason the bar codes don't work and it's always such a hassle, but I hate losing money more.

I was planning on buying the Asian Made to Move doll (last time I had been there they had a couple), but she was sold out. Not a huge deal I really didn't need her. I haven't even opened the first one I got back when they first came out last year. I toyed with the idea of getting another Eye Doctor Barbie set, but don't need more of those glasses. In the end I bought one of the older Style Barbie dolls. The ones that replaced the articulated Fashionistas with the two pairs of shoes. They had the Raquelle with the black Mary Janes and while I didn't need a fourth pair of those shoes I didn't not need a fourth pair either. Also it was really the only thing that was interesting to me. Since I've sold parts of this doll before I knew I could at least make part of my money back. I could see something shiny on the doll's face in the box, but it wasn't until I got home I found out what it was.

The doll was WEEPING glue from inside her head through the holes from her rooted eyelashes.

I already removed the doll from the box and put the outfit away for safe keeping. The doll's head also came off since I'm keeping the body for a spare. I did fill the head with talcum powder. Hopefully that will soak up some of that residue. I don't have any of these dolls (I just keep the bodies), but is this a common thing? This is not an old doll and if that glue is already unstable these dolls are going to be riddled with issues in the future.

I guess it's the 2010's version of greasy face, paling, melting, and spotty legs.

The 2016 Disney Store Classic Dolls are online!

Been that way for a couple of days now and I just haven't bothered to tell you are. In an unusual move, couple nights ago Disney pulled the 2015 dolls and listed the new ones. They didn't even bother clearancing the old dolls off, they just switched them out. Well most of them. For some reason Anna from Frozen is still last year's version. I was surprised with this move since they traditionally have a bit of a pattern with the Classic dolls.  I had given up hope the dolls would be be for sale soon since they didn't seem to be selling them off like they normally did, but then they did this!

There's not too too much to say on them. The Princes are still part of the line and Kristoff did get a new outfit. However he's the only one that's really changed any. All the other Prince dolls are still the same they just got an updated box. I wish they had more updates, but at leas this means I won't have to buy any of them. The Villians are still gone from the line same for the friend dolls.

The Princesses did get some minor tweaks. They also got the new boxes as well as a little plastic animal friend. I wish the Prince dolls also got a plastic friend. It would give people more incentive to buy them and there's plenty of friends in each movie to use. They did lose the plastic gems on their clothes (and still retail for 16.95) but everyone is in pretty much the same outfit as last time with some of them getting minor tweaks. I think Mulan and Pocahontas are the exact same as last year. I think Tiana got a new face mold. Sleeping Beauty's face looks a little different, but I think it's the angle of the pictures. I'm not a fan of the new Ariel. Her eye makeup looks to be just browns and in the pictures it makes her look sickly. Not that I'm planning on buying her, I have an Ariel that I'm happy enough with.

In terms of shoes, it looks like they're still using the flats. I've heard that Elsa (who was showing up earlier in stores) was wearing them and in the stock photos you can see that Snow White is wearing them. Usually they stick to one shoe mold for the entire line, so I'm betting all of them are wearing the same shoe mold.

There's 14 female dolls in the classic line. Out of the 14, 5 of them don't use the flat shoe molds in their outfit. Ariel, Rapunzel, and Pocahontas are barefoot, Anna wears boots, and Jasmine has shoes with pointed toes. It looks like Tinkerbell and Snow White's shoes are the same colors are previous years so right now I am just looking at dolls with shoes I can't see; Elsa, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Merida, Mulan, Belle, and Tiana. However I am betting there's a lot of repeats in color from last year especially for the dolls with minimal costume changes.  I already have shoes from each of the dolls in my collection from previous years. The only one I'm hoping will be different is Cinderella since the glass slipper look can have a lot of different variations. Belle could also be different if they tried for a more golden color shoe instead of the yellow she usually has. I'm pretty much assuming the rest will be in the same shoes as last year. I've already started but I will be hounding the internet for reviews and pictures of the new dolls to see if my assumptions are correct. If anyone sees any or gets the dolls themselves I'd love to be alerted to any new information, especially if it's comparing shoes from the previous year. I'll buy the doll if the new color is different enough, I just don't need spares of any color. I'd rather not spend the money on the doll just to get a repeat.

So for the most part the classic line for my purposes is a bit of a bust. I do plan on getting Kristoff for his outfit, but can't see too many other dolls joining him. I will buy a second one to get the 10 dollar each deal, but haven't decided who yet. Hopefully someone will have shoes that warrant me getting them.

I didn't count her, but there actually is another new classic dolls, Elena of Avalor. She is not yet part of the 10 dollar deal.... yet. Disney usually does that with new releases to squeeze the most money out of people. She will eventually join the line, but only after enough people have paid 16.95 for her. That's what happened with the Frozen dolls. She does not use the flat shoes, her classic doll has an all new shoe mold. It's cute, but oddly long for her foot. I'm not sure if it's actually have enough room inside, but it looks like it should fit the tall/curvy sized dolls with the arched foot. It even has a small kitten heel that looks like a decent height for them too. Hopefully someone will say if they're compatible or not.

There are two other Elena doll releases as well. There's the mini-doll set, which has yet to have any 12 inch counterparts beyond Elena herself as well as a gift set which includes a Singing Elena as well as her little sister Isabel. Eleana has a different outfit and shoes compared to her classic doll. The shoes are a more formal looking gold pair with kitten heels. Looks like a brand new mold. That doll does have the hard plastic legs with the knee and ankle joint, so she has the larger flat feet. I don't think the feet are bigger than say, Poppy Parker, but I like having those type of shoes for doll's feet that are bigger than the average Barbie. In this set Isobel actually is wearing the Disney flats in what appears to be a new color! They're yellow, but more of a gold/mustard hue than the bright yellow color of Belle's and Snow White's shoes. For the record there is no Classic Disney Store Isabel doll but the J.C. Penny doll has her in the black Disney flats, which I already own thanks to Sleeping Beauty Deluxe Gift Set Maleficent. So while the Classic dolls are a disappointment, at least there's some new shoe colors out there.

I am also waiting for a doll to come from the U.K. who will be wearing a pair of the shoes as well.....

Two blog posts in one day???

I spent a good chunk of today working on E-bay auctions. I've been rather apathetic to the whole process lately and I really cannot afford to be sitting around not working on E-bay. I have a lot of stuff to list, so I need to get my act together and work on it when I have free time. I got 5 done over the course of two days earlier in the week and today I got 6 done. A few things I've had for a while, but a few new things too. I still have a lot of old things to list, but at least I'm keeping some things from gathering too much dust before I list them.

Since I am done with that for the day (but plan on working on it tomorrow some more) I've decided to do a doll introduction post. Just like with E-bay I have lots of old dolls to share, but this one is going to be a new one.

Last Saturday was the doll meeting. It was going to be the cookout so I was going to skip it. That meeting really is just a few people bringing their families and barely anyone going swimming while the majority of us hang out under the overhang and make small talk. Since I haven't gotten much sun this year I bet I'd burn like crazy and with my fair skin, I really don't need that risk. So I was going to skip it. I didn't even ask for that day off from work.

But as luck would have it, I ended up getting the day off for some reason. Also it ended up being a change of plans for the pool party. Something happened to the pool and in failed inspection and was closed. There was talk of having it at someone else's house, and just grilling but nobody could host so they just ended up having a regular old indoor meeting. Not many people could come, but since I had the day off and prefer indoor meetings, I decided to go.

I also decided to stop at the thrift stores on the way up. I was originally going to stop into work that day too. They were having a double employee discount day and there's a few housewares I want for my eventual move but I decided to skip going there. The deals were good, but there's another one coming up next month and it's not like they're going to sell out of the items I wanted by then. Also, when I don't have to be at work I don't want to be there. I see several of my co-workers come in to shop and I just think, why? (Some of them are there an awful lot) I'm not much of a full priced retail shopper and I'm there often enough to buy whatever I need when I have to be there.

Since the meeting was later than usual, I decided to still leave early and visit a store that I'd only been to once and over a year ago. I think it's an old grocery store but right now it's an antique mall. I had visited when it first opened and didn't find anything, but maybe since it had more time to get settled I might have better luck. It did have more stalls filled this time, and I did have decent luck. I did notice something odd, I didn't see too many "collector" Barbie dolls there. Usually there's several sellers trying to unload those type of dolls for higher than E-bay prices, but I saw very few pink box dolls for some reason. At one of the first stalls I found a vintage Brunette Skooter. She was tucked into a basket with some cheap 50's/60's era decorative dolls. The kinds with mohair, sleep eyes, molded on shoes, and arms held on by elastic and molded on legs. Some of them had fallen apart, so Skooter was sitting in a sea of random heads and headless bodies.

She's a bit TLC, but only cost 5 dollars so I decided to get her. I figured even her body would cost me more than that online, I do have a real surplus of Skipper bodies so I didn't even really need her for that but I really have a hard time passing up on vintage, unless it's super expensive or super trashed. Skooter was dressed when I got her. She was wearing a shirt made of a pink cotton with a bias trimmed neckline and gathered wrists with lace details. The shirt closes with velcro so it's newer than she is. It's in rough shape, there's a hole in the back at one of the sleeves. It's much too large for her, so I'm not going to try and salvage it. She also came with a pair of pants. The pants I think are vintage. They're a pair of pink with white polka dot pajama pants. They had and elastic waist and white lace at the bottom. They're also in rough shape. The elastic is shot, the inseam is blown out, and one side the fabric is fraying and the trim has come off. I might be able to salvage these. I'm not sure if they're vintage Skipper or not. I did see someone identify them as Betsy McCall's pajama pants, but I've only seem them called them that by that one person. They are cute though.

Let's start talking about Skooter and her issues. Let's start from the top and work our way down. Her hair is actually very nice. She is a brunette, not sure if I have one of those or not already. I do need to spend a little time getting some of the longer pieces out of her bangs but her hair wasn't to bad when I got her. Her head has darkened, which does happen. Her face paint is nice, but her lip pant and blush have oxidized to a white color. I don't mind the lips, but the white cheeks are an odd look, especially with her darkened face. At the very center of her lips she still has a small trace of her original lip color. Her biggest issue is a small gouge to her chin. I noticed it at the store but still decided to get her. It's not terrible, terrible but it's not like Skooter is worth much anyway. Her body is nice, her arms have darkened as well. Her body has general play wear but nothing too extreme.
She's okay, Skooter is probably my least liked of the vintage era dolls. She's got the tricky to sew for proportions of Skipper and the goofy looks of Midge (I think she's more cartoony than Midge). Not sure when she's get dressed I really haven't sewn anything in AGES, but perhaps she'll get her day in the sun eventually. And if not I can resell her and get my money back. I only paid 5 bucks for her.

And about the meeting, it was okay. Very few people there and since we didn't have a theme it was pretty aimless. I'm glad I went, but the real fun times was the doll shopping I got to do before the meeting. It was nice seeing people, but had I missed it I wouldn't have been too upset. I don't think I asked for the July meeting date off, but I did ask for the August meeting date. That's the convention recap. I'm warming up to the idea of going to a convention, not any time soon since it's expensive but I would like to go for the experience. I like hearing about the convention because you always get some of the dirt. Also hearing about the "deals" people got even though I find a lot better bargains online.

(Don't think there's too many 5 dollar Skooters at convention!)

Another one sells out!

First of all, thank you everyone for my Birthday wishes. I really do appreciate it.

Disney store now only has 23 classic dolls in stock. The Beast has sold out. I find it odd that out of the three three dolls that have sold out, two of them are Princes. I would think that they would be the least popular dolls, but perhaps they have less of those since they anticipate them being less in demand. They are having a sale on some toys right now, but not on the classic dolls. The animator dolls are down to 18 and the Alice in Wonderland movie collection dolls are also 18. The Alice dolls must not be selling at all if they're already slashing their prices. Even the Lone Ranger dolls took a while to start getting clearanced out and that movie TANKED.

I did see some new mini dolls today. They're for the upcoming Elena of Avalor TV show. We've already seen the 12 inch version of Elena, but this set had three new characters. It has a new blonde woman doll who kind of looks like a pirate (her outfit reminds me a lot of that pirate fairy from the Tinkerbell line), a darker skinned male doll who's dressed like a prince, and another male doll who is in more casual clothes that kind of looks like Aladdin. Not sure if they're going to be 12 inch versions of these dolls, but usually the mini dolls are the classic doll molds shrunk down so I can't see them making new molds and just using them on mini dolls. Still not sure if these dolls will be part of the classic line or will be their own line. I hope they're part of the classic line, those dolls are usually cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney released them as their own line so they could charge more for them and keep them out of the 2 for 10 dollar special (although last year it rose to 2 for 12 dollars when they were first released). Time will tell, right now we just have to wait until the remaining dolls sell out and the release the new ones.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Hello everyone, today is my Birthday! And yes, I am shameless enough to create a blog post just so people here can wish me a happy birthday.

Even though it's my Birthday, I'm holding off on celebrations. I want the new City Suit Silkstone Barbie doll for my birthday present, but she's only available at Barbie Collector website and is back ordered until the end of the month. I'm hoping another site will be getting her before then. I'm not in the mood to spend 100 dollars to get free shipping when I've already used my quarterly reward. So I'm holding off my party until she shows up somewhere else. Also, my father is working so I'm hoping to get a day where he's not working. That's easier said than done though, his job has been working him every day since he started there over 6 months ago. There's a glimmer of home he'll get a weekend off soon. Not sure if I'll do my party then, but we have options.

I did have a little Birthday luck. Today I went over to Amazon and found the new Made to Move redhead had been listed for sale. I quickly rushed and bought the last one. I was glad to find her, but really wanted the blonde one. Thinking she might have also been listed I poked around on Amazon and found her. I had bought the second to last one of her. I've only deboxed two of the dolls, but for a doll line that I don't really love (I wish the torso was the fashionista torso) I've purchased every single doll in the line so far.

I also wanted to use this time to talk about the upcoming Disney Classic dolls. Yes, we are at that time again. The time when the old dolls are clearanced out and the new dolls get released. Well, close to the time. It used to be at the early part of June, but last year it was late June when the new dolls were revealed and I think it's going to be that way this year too. The biggest sign that the new dolls are coming is Disney selling off the old dolls cheaply and them selling out and not getting replenished. They did just have one of their clearance sales. Right now there's 24 classic dolls on the site. It looks like Elsa and Snow White's Prince are the only ones missing. I'm not sure if they're not going to get new Elsa dolls before the new dolls get released. Seems a long time losing out on sales for their most popular princes by not restocking. Some information and pictures has leaked about the dolls so far. Right now it seems that the dolls have a new box, but the dolls themselves are pretty much rehashes of last year. Tiana might have gotten a new head mold (so far we've seen Tiana, Rapunzel, Pocahontas, and Elsa) but the other dolls look practically the same. It looks like the clothes have lost the plastic "gems" on them, but they gained little plastic figurines of one of their animal friends. The Elsa pictures are actually her on store shelves with the current Frozen dolls. She might be the first one to show up since I can't see Disney waiting to restock her when she's in such high demand and they've got the dolls ready to sell.

There's conflicting reports about the Princes, some people say they've been dropped from the line and some people say that Kristoff will be getting his summer outfit (I assume the one from Frozen Fever) this year. I could see them dropping the Princes from the line but keeping the Frozen male dolls around. I mean, they kept Hans in the line and he's the only *Spoiler* villain left in the classic line.

JCPenny also released two new dolls from the Elena of Avalor series. They are from their version of the classic line, which is a simplified version of the Disney store's dolls. (Usually that just means no arm articulation and a simplified outfit). Both dolls look very pretty, and one of them is a child sized doll with articulated wrists, which is a first for Disney. Usually the younger dolls get the Tinkerbell body that has a really unnatural looking arm, especially the elbow joint. This doll still has the Tinkerbell elbow, but the articulated wrist looks interesting. I'm not sure if these dolls will be part of the Disney Store classic line or a new line for the new show. They've already sold out on JCPenny, but I wouldn't buy from them anyway. The only time I've bought from JCPenny was years ago and it was a TERRIBLE ordeal and I refuse to buy from them. Not that it matters, the one in town closed several years ago so it's not like the pick up in store option is even an option any more. And if I'm not willing to spend 100 dollars at Barbie Collector for free shipping, I'm even less likely to do it at JCPenny.

Right now, without seeing the rest of the line I assume I probably won't be buying too many of the Classic dolls this year. I really just buy them for the flat shoes. Not sure if the dolls are even using the flat shoe this year but if the dolls are pretty much clones of last year, most likely the shoes will be the same too. I'm really just interested in Kristoff if he does get a new outfit, since Joe can wear those clothes, and the younger Elena doll since it's a new body and I'm curious to see what it's like.
